I am glad that you are back! This time we are going to talk about Community Language Learning.

This is a teaching method that focuses on speaking and sharing ideas with the rest of the group. In this method everything flows naturally and nothing is prepared before the class.

Our teacher made us choose a random topic and record ourselves talking about it for one minute, then we had to look for things that we could teach and at the beginning we thought that we were not going to find nothing, but what a surprise! We did find some grammar structures in our conversation that could be taught to students.

With this method we had the opportunity to work with Authentic Material, which is material that is not designed for teaching purposes; however, we can use it for teaching. A song, for example, we can ask our students to print the lyrics of a song, and even though it was not designed for teaching, we can make our students identify grammar structures in the songs, verbs conjugations, adjectives, prepositions… and so on; we would be using authentic material.

This was my summary of Community Language Learning, if I am missing something, please let me know, I’ll be waiting for your feedback.

See you in my next entry!
