Glad to see you again!
In today’s entry we are going to talk about the TPR (Total Physical Response) method. I like this method because I feel like this is how I learned english when I was a kid, I still remember some of the activities that we did in my english classes at the school.
The TPR is a student-centered method that focuses on teaching through physical activity in order to reinforce student’s comprehension of the language. As you can imagine, this method is very interactive and that is the main reason why this method is better for young learners, but it can also work for adults. With this method we can make use of short commands to indicate something and we do not have to give big explanations; we can also do movements to show something, it is a great way to learn new vocabulary through body movements, students can learn a lot vocabulary and we can start with basic vocabulary and then move to more advanced vocabulary.
In our session we made a small activity in which we had to make small circles with our classmates and sing the popular song “If you are happy and you know it…”. We used used short command like “Clap your hands”, “Turn around”, “Jump” and others. I took some pictures and a small video that I am going to share with you right now:

Now it’s time to explain to you some of the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats of this method.
The main strengths of this method is that it is very interactive and the session with the students will be less boring. One weakness is that this method is not useful for teaching a lot of topics, just some of them. We have the opportunity of giving to the students a lot of vocabulary with the different activities that we can perform and it will be easier for them to remember it. A threat that we could face in this method is that students might get tired of doing physical activities.
This was my summary of The TPR, if I am missing something, please let me know, I’ll be waiting for your feedback.
See you in my next entry!
