Welcome back! We are starting period 2 and the first topic that we discussed in class was The Collaborative Approach.

We started defining what is an approach and basically it is a big umbrella in which we put an idea or focus and then we analyze everything that is below it. When we talk about “Collaborative”, we mean doing something as a team and complementing each other.

In the Collaborative Approach we find:

Community Language Learning, in which:

We get to know people.

Confidence in a group is created

Connections in a group are created.

You feel good surrounded by friends.

Planning is not necessary.

Task-Based Learning, in which:

We overcome obstacles together.

The decisions made as a team will affect everybody in the group.

Planning is necessary.

Example: Creating a presentation, deciding what is worth keeping or eliminating and then deciding how to present it.

Content Based Learning, in which:

We are ready to deal with anything.

We know our capability as a group.

We know who is good for certain activities and the skills that each one has.

Here is a “virtual version” of some of the ideas that our teacher shared with us:

Also, teacher Orlando asked us to get together in groups and share our experiences working with other classmates in collaborative projects when we were in the school, high school or even in the university. Here you have some pictures that I took:

Here I have a small illustration that I made that basically shows the main point of each one of the subtopics of The Collaborative Approach.

This was my entry about The Collaborative Approach, I hope that you liked it, and as always if I am missing something, please let me know, I’ll be waiting for your feedback.

See you in my next entry!
