I am glad to have you back! In this entry we are going to talk about a very interesting topic and it is The Multiple Intelligences Theory (MI theory).

The Multiple Intelligences Theory was introduced by Howard Gardner in 1983, in his book “Frames of Mind”, Gardener said that intelligence is not a steady phenomenon and that people can hold different types and levels of intelligence; in this theory he states that every human hast eight different types of intelligences, and we have each of these in varying degrees. I am going to show you the eight intelligences that Gardener talks about and also, I will share with you information about “existential intelligence”.

1) Visual-Spatial Intelligence

People who have a high level of this intelligence can visualize objects better, use visual aids in order to explain something or imagine things better than other people.

2) Linguistic-Verbal Intelligence

With this type of intelligence an individual is able to use language in order to achieve goals; some examples are: Preparing a speech or learning a new language with the aim of communicating.

3) Logical-Mathematical Intelligence

Solving complex math problems, analyzing problems logically and solving abstract problems are some of the things that individuals with this type of intelligence can perform.

4) Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence

People with this intelligence are capable of using their body for addressing challenges and performing physical activities, and they always perform very well; that’s why gymnasts, athletes, farmers, and carpenters have high levels of this intelligence.

5) Musical Intelligence

With this type of intelligence an individual is able to analyze rhythm, pitch and everything that has to do with music and sounds, that’s why musicians, composers and singers have a high level of musical intelligence.

6) Interpersonal Intelligence

Establishing good relationships with people, customer service, couching and sales are some of the activities that people with this type of intelligence can perform very well.

7) Intrapersonal Intelligence

People who have a high level of this intelligence is usually very self-aware of their mistakes, who they are, they know their abilities and their weaknesses; they also know how to deal with their thoughts and emotions.

8) Naturalistic Intelligence

People with this intelligence are capable of classifying different types of animals, plants or other things related to nature. They have a very deep connection with nature and they feel comfortable being surrounded by it.

9) Existential Intelligence

What is the meaning of life? Where do we go after we die? Why am I here? Those are some of the questions that people with this type of intelligence ask themselves. Also, some of them tend to be very spiritual and open minded.

Teacher Orlando asked us to make a small test to see the amount or levels of intelligence that we have; this was my result:

This was my short entry about The Multiple Intelligences, I tried to summarize it as much as I could, and as always, if I am missing something, please let me know, I’ll be waiting for your feedback.

See you in my next entry!
