Welcome back to my blog!

In today’s class we covered the topic of The Grammar Translation Method, which is a traditional way of teaching and it focuses on learning grammar and then translating sentences. Some of its characteristics of this method is that they do not pay that much attention to the mistakes in the pronunciation, just in the ones made in the grammar part; another characteristic is that the students have to start reading complex texts since the beginning.

As I mentioned before, this method focuses on learning the grammar and because of that, the students spend all their time translating texts and sentences, and they learn how to read and write the target language properly.

Now I am going to explain you some of the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats of this method.

Some of the strengths of this method is that the students can improve their reading/writing skills, and it also helps their memory. A weakness of this method is that students do not develop their listening and speaking skills since it is only focused on the grammar, they cannot improve their pronunciation. Some of the opportunities that we find in this method is that students are able to learn vocabulary and they can learn it by reading different texts. One of the threats of this method is that the classes might turn boring for the students.

My personal conslusion is that the Grammar Translation Method is perfect if you just want to develop the writing skills of the students, and also, if you want them to get new vocabulary.

This was my short but accurate (I hope so) summary about the Grammar Translation Method, I would love to read your feedback.

See you in my next entry!
